A flooded Ompompanoosuc

May 30, 2008

Heavy spring rains caused the Ompompanoosuc River in Vermont to flood.  At this point the river was about 50 feet higher in elevation than it normally is.

Could you please tell me where this photo was taken — i.e., which town, nearest landmark? My aunt’s property abuts the river in Post Mills on Rt. 113 (Thetford) — I’ve seen the river very high in the spring floods, but never 50 ft. above normal!

    Thank you.

It was taken just north of Union Village, behind the dam on the road into the park there. Your aunts property would have been well north of where this photo was taken. The reason the river was so high was because it was being backed up behind the dam – the river levels in other areas did not reach this height.
